Kellogg: El loco (o el genio) tras la caja de cereales / Kellogg: The Mad Man (or Genius) Behind the Cereal Box

Seguramente, al igual que yo, cuando escucháis la palabra Kellogg's la primera imagen que os viene a la mente es la típica caja de Corn Flakes o cualquiera de las variedades azucaradas más modernas.	I am willing to bet that much like me, when you hear the word Kellogg’s, the first image that pops to mind is the typical Corn Flakes Box or any of the more modern sugary variations of this breakfast cereal.
Hace poco, los amigos de XRL Tech Corner me recomendaron que indagara la historia tras el nombre Kellogg. Debo admitir, que tras leer numerosos artículos sobre el tema, aun soy incapaz de decidir si el hombre tras la caja de cereales era un cuentista loco o un genio innovador.  (No puedo esperar a leer vuestra opinion al respecto en los comentarios abajo). Antes de convertirse en en sinónimo de cereales, el nombre Kellog se asociaba con el Sanatorio de Battle Creek: unas instalaciones perfectamente equilibradas en la cuerda floja entre lo que hoy consideraríamos una clínica médica y un centro de wellness con métodos de lo más innovadores (aunque un tanto dudosos).	Very recently I was advised by the friends at XRL Tech Corner to look into the history behind the Kellogg name.  I must admit, that after reading numerous articles  about the subject, I am still undecided as to whether the man behind the cereal box was a mad scientist or an innovative genius.  (I look forward to reading your opinion in the comments section below). Before becoming a synonym for cereals, the name Kellogg was associated with the Battle Creek Sanitarium: a facility doing a flawless balancing act on the fine line between a medical clinic and a modern wellness center with highly innovative (yet somewhat doubtful) methods.

John Harvey Kellogg, superintendente del Sanatorio Battle Creek desde 1876  creía firmemente en la importancia de una dieta equilibrada (según él vegetariana), ejercicio y enemas como las claves para una vida sana. Con su invento podía inyectar al paciente unos 57 litros de agua purificadora en cuestión de segundos.Tratamiento que continuaba dándole al paciente un litro de yogur (mitad via oral y la otra mitad.... bueno ya os podéis imaginar) Él creía que al hacerlo purificaba el aparato digestivo y con el yogur renovaba la flora intestinal a lo largo de todo su recorrido. Una vez superado el ritual de bienvenida los pacientes podían disfrutar de los numerosos inventos del Dr. Kellogg, bien fueran para hacer ejercicio, quemar grasa, mejorar la circulación entre muchos otros posibles usos. Entre sus inventos que veréis abajo, ¿os recuerda alguno a los aparatos que podemos encontrar en cualquier gimnasio o spa? With his invention he could inject the patient with 15 gallons of purifying water in a matter of seconds.The treatment was then completed giving him (or her) one litter of yogurt (half of it orally, and the other half.... well you can already imagine.  He believed that be doing so he purified the digestive system and  renewed the gut flora along the entire intestinal track. Once surpassed this welcome ritual, the patients could enjoy Dr. Kellogg's numerous inventions, whether it be to do some exercise, burn fat, improve blood circulation, among many other possible uses.  Do any of the below contraptions remind you at all of what one may find now a days in a modern gym or spa?

En el fondo, si nos paramos a pensar en los tratamientos, seguro que no deben ser tan distinto al que se someten muchos de los famosos en busca del cuerpo perfecto (excluyendo cirugía estética, claro está).  Si después de todos estos ejercicios, tratamientos y una dieta vegetariana sana el paciente no mejoraba, Dr. Kellogg antes de reconocer su fallo adjudicaba la culpa a la masturbación a escondidas del paciente, que a su parecer era un "auto-abuso". Pero eso es un capítulo aparte  para otro día de estos.	Deep down, if we stop to think about it, I'm certain that these treatments are not all that different from what many famous people endure in search for the perfect body (excluding plastic surgery, of course) If after all of the excercise, treatments and healthy vegetarian diet the patient 's health did not improve, Dr. Kellogg, instead of recognising defeat , blamed the hidden act of masturbation of the patient (which according to him was "self-abuse".  But that's a different chapter for some other day.
